AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY APPLICATION

YES! I would like to become a member of The American Legion Family and honor my qualifying relatives for their service. I certify by forwarding this application that I qualify in one or more of the five bullet points below:

(1)I am a grandmother, mother, sister, spouse, and direct and adopted female descendant of members of The American Legion; and

(2)I am a grandmother, mother, sister, spouse, and direct and adopted female descendant of all men and women who served in either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11,1918 and any time after December 7, 1941 who, being a citizen of the United States at the time of their entry therein served on active duty in the Armed Forces of any of the governments associated with the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge;

(3)I am a grandmother, mother, sister, spouse, and direct and adopted female descendant of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during either of the following periods: April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918; and any time after December 7, 1941 who served on active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States during either eligibility periods and died in the line of duty or after honorable discharge;

(4)I am a male spouse of a U.S. veteran and service member who served in either of the qualifying periods for qualified veterans.

(5)I am a woman who of her own right is eligible for membership in The American Legion.*

*A woman who is eligible for American Legion membership is eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary regardless of whether or not she is a member of The American Legion. However, eligibility of her female relatives (sister, mother, direct descendants) and/or spouse depends upon her membership in The American Legion.

The veteran whom is establishing my eligibility is a member in good standing with the American Legion or has passed on to Post Everlasting of which I have validated documentation.

In the past, membership to the American Legion was limited to those whose relatives had served in the military during the specific times of service when the U.S. Congress had declared hostilities in which U.S. military personnel were activated. There were at least 12 additional known combat operations that required activation of our military personnel in which resulted in approximately 1,600 U.S. military men and women casualties, but those who served during those periods were prevented from joining the American Legion.

This ruling was changed in 2018 and now has been extended to include all U.S. military personnel who served on active duty during these hostile conflicts. It has been classified as "Other Conflicts" to include the Cold War which is represented in the dates from the end of WWII through to today.

* These dates will remain open until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.
